Mountain Bike Wheels

Mountain Bike Wheels
As a beginner, it could be very confusing for one to just stroll into a bike shop to buy their very first mountain bike. And what is more confusing is what all accessories one would need to start biking.

Mountain bike accessories and other mountain bike products one would want are available in plenty. A shopkeeper will be looking for a profit and would sell everything he can, but what beginners and customers with a budget need is a bike that has the proper accessories to make the ride safe and pleasant. These accessories given below will give one a good idea of what to buy and what not to buy.

Usually all the mountain bikes use a 29 inch or 559 mm mountain bike wheels, though there are a few models can use 24 inch or 29 inch which is 520 mm or 622 mm wheels. The measurements of the wheels of a bicycle are not at all accurate for example; when a 29 inch wheel is measured it has a 622 mm or a 24.48 inch bead seat diameter.

The ETRTO tire and rim-sizing scheme makes use of the term BSD or bead seat diameter. The 622 mm or 29 inch wheels, which are used on normal occasions on the mountain bikes, are also known as 700c. In many countries including central and south Europe, the 700c wheels are usually called 28-inch wheels.

These bikes have broad, knobbier tires for more grip and absorption of shock. In modern bikes, suspension for front wheel has become the custom while suspension for the full front and rear is becoming more and more general.

In few mountain bikes, the handlebars are fixed with bar ends, but riser handlebars which are made such that they oppose to a flat straight handlebar are becoming increasingly popular because a very few riders use bars with their ends extended. These bikes usually have 26 inches or 559 mm mountain bike wheels, but after year 2002 many bikes are available in the markets, which have 29 inches or 622 mm wheels. This is the diameter universally used for other normal road bikes which is also known as a 700c

Smaller diameter mountain bike wheels like the 24 inch wheels are also used in bikes used for dirt jumping and many times they are used in bikes taken for a free ride also. These wheels are used only as the rear wheels as they make the maneuvering of the bike even easier. The 29 inch wheels were used only for cross country purposes in the earlier days but now they are being used more frequently with great effect in mountain biking. They have become very common in mountain biking.

The mountain bike wheels come in a range of widths too, starting from the normal rims which are suitable tires of dimensions 26 inch x 1.90 inch to 2.10 inch or 559 x 48 to 53 mm size. The tires of dimensions 2.35 and 3.00 in or 60 and 76 mm width are very popular for a free ride or downhill bicycling
